Design and Infrastructure Plan, Downtown Hyannis, MA

Kate Kennen was part of a team of Town of Barnstable staff that worked together to create the Downtown Hyannis Design and Infrastructure Plan.

The Design and Infrastructure Plan (D&I Plan) is a guidebook for developers to clearly understand urban design elements that the Town and community are looking for in the redevelopment of downtown Hyannis. The D&I Plan outlines desired development patterns to encourage enhancement of the public realm and natural systems. Required low impact development strategies are illustrated including passive stormwater techniques, and design guidelines encourage green, high performance building standards.

KKLA’s participation helped ensure that the document was not a creation of strict architectural design guidelines, but rather a series of illustrations and recommendations for site plan layout and landscape techniques can create an alternate form of urbanism that responds to local natural systems.
